Julian Acosta was born and raised in Puerto Rico. He went to school in the Antilles School System on Fort Buchanan in Guaynabo and High School in El Paso, Texas where his father, a U.S. Marshal, was transferred. Julian started acting at North Harris College in Houston, TX under Sherri Ryan White and went on to earn a B.F.A in Theater at Florida International University in Miami and his M.F.A in Acting at Rutgers University where he studied with William Esper and Maggie Flanigan.
Julian got his start in New York where he was quickly cast in Denis Leary's heralded, but short-lived comedy series "The Job" on ABC. Since then Julian has starred as the lovable eccentric Adam Proteau on "Dirt" on F/X, on "Strong Medicine" on Lifetime Television, "The Defenders" on CBS, Hollywood Heights on NICK, "Franklin and Bash" on TNT and is currently appearing on The Secret Life of the American Teenager on ABC Family.
He has made Guest Starring turns on "The West Wing", "Entourage", '"One Life to Live" "The George Lopez Show", "Law & Order", "Second Time Around", "King Pin", "The Unit", "Scrubs", "The Mentalist", "Castle", "NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service", "Covert Affairs" and "Law & Order: Los Angeles".
Julian can also be seen in the films "We Have Your Husband", "Bound By Lies" with Stephen Baldwin and Kristy Swanson, "True Love" directed by Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Prize Nominee Henry Barrial, "Seed" directed by Hugo Perez, "The Lords of Salem" directed by Rob Zombie and as Legendary Punk Rock guitarist Johnny Ramone in the upcoming film "CBGB" directed Randy Hiller and is set to appear in his first Spanish Language film El Secreto Del Retrato" directed by Janet Alvarez Gonzalez.
Julian is a member of LAByrinth Theater Company the Off-Broadway Theater Company in New York City. Julian last appeared along with Phillip Seymour Hoffman, John Ortiz, Liza Colon-Zayas, Gaius Charles, LeRoy McLain Saidah Arika Eukulona and Jesicca Chastain in the internationally acclaimed production of "Othello" directed by Peter Sellars.
Julian's other stage credits include "Penalties and Interest" by Rebecca Cohen and "Massacre (Sing To Your Children) by Oscar nominated Playwright and Screen Writer Jose Rivera both at the Public Theater in New York, "Piano" by Anna Deveare Smith, "Lucy and The Conquest" by Cusi Cram at the Williamstown Theater Festival, "Anna In The Tropics" by Nilo Cruz and "Lover's and Executioners" by John Strand both at South Coast Repertory Theater for which Julian was nominated for a Los Angeles Critic's Circle Award.
Julian's Theatrical Directorial debut "Short Eyes" by Miguel Pinero at the Los Angeles Theater Center was not only critically acclaimed, but selected by the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs to represent the city of Los Angeles at the International Hispanic Theatre Festival in Miami in July 2012 where it was raved by both the Miami Herald and the Miami New Times.
