Born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama, Thom Gossom Jr. received a BA from Auburn University, and his MA from the University of Montevallo. He landed a role on "In the Heat of the Night." The subsequent lead role in the HBO film Miss Evers Boys, propelled the southerner to Hollywood.
