A graduate of the North Carolina School of the Arts, he has worked extensively in theaters across the U.S., including the Guthrie Theatre, the Alliance Theatre and Musical Theatreworks in New York. Film and television appearances include Mr. Brooks, Prison Break, Army Wives, and Warm Springs on HBO.
Steve was the head writer and executive story editor for both of Tyler Perry's television series, House of Payne and Meet the Browns, where he supervised over 100 episodes. During his tenure, House of Payne won the NAACP Image Award for Best Comedy Series two years in a row. Steve wrote and directed the award-winning short film, The Etiquette Man, selected by the Sundance Channel and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. Keesha's House, which he co-wrote with Dee Wagner, won the $100,000 Southeastern Media Award at the Atlanta Film Festival.
He recently co-starred with The Wire's Seth Gilliam in The People v. Leo Frank on PBS, and the ABC series, Detroit 1-8-7. This coming year, he appears in Lionsgate's The Hunger Games, Disney's The Odd Life of Timothy Green, Jayne Manfield's Car (directed by Billy Bob Thornton), What to Expect When You're Expecting, opposite Colin Firth and Emily Blunt in Arthur Newman, Golf Pro for Focus Features, and in "Flight", directed by Robert Zemeckis.
