鲍里斯·约翰逊可能是世界上第一位因感染新冠病毒住进医院的国家领导人。3月27日，英国首相府唐宁街10号宣布，鲍里斯·约翰逊确诊感染了新冠病毒，有轻微症状。自行隔离10天后，由于新冠肺炎症状持续，鲍里斯·约翰逊于4月5日应医生建议入院进行身体检测；4月6日晚因症状加重，鲍里斯·约翰逊被转入重症监护病房。4月9日晚，鲍里斯·约翰逊身体状况好转离开重症监护病房，但继续留院接受治疗。4月12日下午出院后鲍里斯·约翰逊在乡间官邸契克斯庄园（Chequers）休养身体，直至4月27日重返唐宁街10号。

I'm sorry I've been away from my desk for much longer than I would have liked and I want to thank everybody who has stepped up, in particular the First Secretary of State Dominic Raab who has done a terrific job, but once again I want to thank you, the people of this country for the sheer grit and guts you have shown and are continuing to show.

"Every day I know that this virus brings new sadness and mourning to households across the land and it is still true that this is the biggest single challenge this country has faced since the war and I in no way minimise the continuing problems we face.
