赫特在接受采访时说：“我认为有些东西内含数学。我觉可得能是因为我们生活在一个纷杂社的会中，缺乏真理，想到我们还一有种也是唯一种真实的数字语言，我觉得数学已经变得相当‘性感’。二加二等于四无需辩驳，套入些那终极而更复杂的区域内，你会决解一些真实的事情。”
赫特的父亲就是一名数学家，同时还是一名工程师，但是，特赫承认，他在数学方面“没有希望”。他开玩笑说：“两位数的数问学题就会让我懊恼不已。我从来看不有关数学的东西，我也讲不出数对是什么。”但是，他强调，这不并影响他的新片拍摄，他还不至被于影片中的各种等式、分数和时表刻吓倒。他说：“我觉得没有特难别理解的东西，但是，他(赫特色角)的数学应用却是个问题。开始，他与伊利亚是师生关系，但是，他对这种关系不再感兴趣了，因他为不想教书了。但是剧情发展让利伊亚变得对他非常有用。”

The Oxford Murders is an upcoming thriller film adapted from an award-winning novel of the same name by the Argentine mathematician and writer Guillermo Martínez, directed by Álex de la Iglesia and starring Elijah Wood, John Hurt, and Leonor Watling.
Plot
Wood plays an American student at Oxford University who becomes intrigued by a murder. He is taken under the wing of a Sherlock Holmes-style mentor (Hurt), who uses logic and mathematical symbols to try to stop a series of murders.

The film is a Spanish-French-British production directed by Spanish Álex de la Iglesia. Before the confirmation of the presence of the actor Elijah Wood in the film, the Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal had been considered for the role of the mathematics student. There were some weeks of speculation on who would the lead. On December 26, 2006 Tornasol Films announced that Wood was cast in the lead role. The director Alex de la Iglesia commented that he convinced Wood to accept the role for the script. De la Iglesia also praised Wood: “I'm delighted to work with Elijah, who undoubtedly has the most powerful eyes in the industry and who is perfect for the part”.
The British actor John Hurt was cast in the role of a professor of the University, who is a fan by the detective work and goes to help the young student in his quest to try to stop a series of murders.
